A Scientific Seminar Titled "The Amazigh and Their Role in Libya: Past and Present"


In a move to enhance awareness of Amazigh heritage and commemorate the February 17 Revolution, a scientific seminar titled "The Amazigh and Their Role in Libya: Past and Present" was launched this morning, Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the auditorium of the Faculty of Law at Nalut University.


The seminar was organized by the Faculty of Law at Nalut University, in collaboration with the Sheikh Ali Yahya Maamar Association for Authenticity and Development, on the occasion of the new Amazigh year and the fourteenth anniversary of the February 17 Revolution. Under the slogan "Knowledge, Familiarity, and Recognition."


The seminar addressed several main topics under the management of Professor Ashraf Ibrahim, including:

* The role of the Amazigh in spreading Islam.

* The Amazigh religious discourse in Libya.

* The role of the Amazigh in the Libyan jihad.

* The role of the Amazigh in the establishment of the modern Libyan state.

* The Contemporary Political Struggle of the Amazigh in Libya (Rights, Challenges, Entitlements)

* And We made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another.

* The right of citizenship and its importance to the Libyan nation.

* Culture and its role in promoting national unity.

* The concept of constitutionalizing languages and the constitutional rights of Amazigh people.

* The Libyan crisis and the role of the Amazigh in the possibility of resolving it peacefully.

Intervention titled "The Role of the Amazigh of Libya in Building the Modern State" presented by Dr. Elias Abubakr Al-Barouni.

Intervention titled "The Contemporary Political Struggle of the Amazigh of Libya: Rights, Challenges, and Entitlements" presented by Professor Ibrahim Mousa Qarada.

• A discussion and dialogue session moderated by Mr. Hamza Al-Lous and Dr. Elias Abubakr Al-Barouni.

The seminar was attended by the President of Nalut University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Masoud Qnan, the former Prime Minister of the National Salvation Government, Dr. Amr Al-Hassi, the University Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Saleh Said Al-Alawi, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Branch of Al-Ruhaybat, Dr. Mohamed Othman Abdul-Sayed, the Director of the Center for Scientific Research, Consultations, and Training, Dr. Nagy Al-Hadi Aburas, the Director of the Language Center, Dr. Adel Suleiman Askar, the Dean of the Faculty of Education in Nalut, Mr. Riyad Suleiman Jernaz, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Dr. Elias Abubakr Al-Barouni, the Financial Auditor at the university, Mr. Ali Ramadan Kounis, the Head of the Faculty Members Syndicate at the university, Mr. Miloud Zakaria Al-Izabi, and Mr. Salah Masoud Al-Dabli, a researcher at the Nafusa Foundation for Cultural and Social Communication, along with several directors of departments and offices at the university.


The seminar also witnessed a distinguished presence of a group of professors and researchers interested in Amazigh heritage, in addition to a wide participation from college students and faculty members at the university, as well as several members of the Sheikh Ali Yahya Maamar Association and the Al-Istiqaama Foundation for the Quran and its Sciences, along with a number of prominent figures in civil society.


The seminar was characterized by a diverse range of presentations that addressed various topics related to Amazigh heritage, including language, culture, and history, presented by a select group of professors from different universities and institutions in Libya. The importance of the February 17 Revolution in achieving the aspirations of the Libyan people for freedom and democracy was also discussed.


At the conclusion of the seminar, the participants and organizers were honored, and the importance of continuing research and documentation of Amazigh heritage, as well as strengthening the inclusive national identity, was emphasized.
